Color & grain

• Heartwood: Deep black, sometimes with brown or golden veins that make the wood particularly unique. Amara ebony has an intense, uniform black color that can develop a subtle sheen in the light.
• Sapwood: Very light, almost white, which forms a strong contrast to the heartwood. However, as the sapwood is usually not used, it is barely visible in most applications.
• Grain: Mostly straight, but also with occasional decorative patterns. The grain is very fine and can occasionally have a slight wavy structure. The texture is very dense and smooth, which makes the wood a preferred material for polishing and fine surface treatment.

• Hardness: Janka hardness: ~13,700 N – Extremely hard and durable, making it particularly scratch-resistant and long-lasting.
• Weight: Very high density, approx. 1,100-1,200 kg/m³ in the dried state.
• Durability: Amara Ebony is extremely durable and resistant to moisture, insects and fungi. It is suitable for indoor applications, especially in humid environments, and is rarely used for outdoor applications as its high density and sensitivity to temperature fluctuations require careful handling.

• Furniture: Due to its exceptional density and color, Amara ebony is used in the manufacture of luxury furniture and fine furniture, especially for unique pieces and designer furniture.
• Musical instruments: Amara ebony is often used for the production of high-quality musical instruments such as piano keys, guitar frets and wind instruments. It is valued for its high strength and excellent resonance properties.
• Arts & Crafts & Sculpture: Due to its density and polishable surface, it is used in the arts and for high-quality craft pieces such as sculptures, inlays and fine handicrafts.
• Jewelry & luxury items: Ebony is often used to make jewelry, watch cases, handles and other luxury accessories that require high value and an elegant appearance.
• Woodturning & inlays: Due to its excellent workability, Amara ebony is also used for woodturning and as an inlay material, especially in the production of high-quality furniture and art objects.
