Color & grain

• Heartwood: Light to reddish-yellow-brown, with a slight sheen that makes the wood particularly appealing.
• Sapwood: Very light, almost white to beige.
• Grain: Straight or slightly wavy, with a fine to medium texture. The grain is often clearly visible and can have a pleasant, harmonious structure.

Tree size & wood properties

• Average height: 5-10 meters (apple trees are smaller than many other hardwoods and not available in the quality of cherry, for example).
• Trunk diameter: 30-50 cm depending on the age and variety of the tree.
• Hardness: Janka hardness: 5,400 N comparable to oak, but slightly softer.
• Weight: Average density, approx. 600-700 kg/m³ in the dried state.
• Durability: Due to its lower resistance to moisture, apple wood is better suited for indoor applications as it is less resistant to the elements.

Frequent uses

• Furniture: Ideal for cabinets, tables and chairs, especially for smaller pieces of furniture or decorative furniture, as the wood offers an appealing, warm color.
• Kitchen utensils & chopping boards: Often used for chopping boards, cooking utensils and wooden spoons, as the wood is not only durable but also has a pleasant appearance.
• Woodturning & art: Due to its good workability, apple wood is popular for carvings, woodturning, wood sculptures and small art objects.
• Instrument making: Partly used for the manufacture of handles and other small parts of musical instruments, as it offers good structural properties.
