Color & grain

• Heartwood: Light brown to creamy white, generally uniform and without any marked color deviations.
• Sapwood: Very light, almost white to yellowish.
• Grain: Usually straight, but occasionally also wavy or with decorative patterns such as bird’s eye or bar grain, which gives the wood a special look.

• Hardness : Janka hardness: ~6,400 N – harder than many other woods such as oak or walnut, making it a good choice for heavy-duty applications.
• Weight: Medium to high density, approx. 600-750 kg/m³ in the dried state.
• Durability: Relatively moderate against moisture and insect infestation, so it is preferred for indoor applications. When used outdoors, it needs a good treatment to protect it from the elements.

Frequent uses

• Furniture: Very popular for making furniture, especially tables, chairs, benches, chests of drawers, chopping boards and shelves. It has a uniform, appealing look and can be worked well in different styles.
• Floors & stairs: Due to its strength and abrasion resistance, it is often used for parquet flooring, worktops, stair treads and wood paneling.
• Musical instruments: Preferred for guitar necks, violin backs and drum shells due to its dense structure and good sound transmission.
• Cutting boards: Thanks to its plain, almost white color, it is ideal for creating contrasts with other fine woods such as walnut, amaranth or padouk.
