The Swiss stone pine, also known as stone pine or Swiss stone pine, belongs to the pine family (Pinaceae) and grows mainly in the Alpine regions of Europe, particularly in Austria, Switzerland and southern Germany. Swiss stone pine wood is known for its pleasant, resinous scent, which has a calming effect and is said to have many positive properties for the indoor climate. Swiss stone pine is a soft coniferous wood.

Color & grain

  • Heartwood: The heartwood of the Swiss stone pine has a light, yellowish to reddish-white color, which can darken slightly over time.
  • Sapwood: The sapwood hardly differs in color from the heartwood, as the Swiss stone pine has a largely uniform wood appearance.
  • Grain: Swiss stone pine wood has a calm, even grain with fine, often slightly wavy lines. There are often small, dark knots that make the wood particularly characteristic. The texture is soft and fine.

  • Durability: Swiss stone pine has a medium resistance to weathering, but is naturally protected against pests by its essential oils. Without surface treatment, the wood is not particularly resistant to moisture and should not be used untreated outdoors.
