Uniqueness of wood:

Wood is a natural product and each piece is unique. Color differences and growth-related irregularities are natural properties of the material. These variations in structure and color make each piece special. Wood can vary in volume, which can lead to warping, cracking, and fit inaccuracies. These properties do not constitute a defect and do not constitute a warranty claim. Direct sunlight can change the colour of the wood.

Processing instructions:

Zebrano solid wood planks can be processed with medium difficulty with conventional woodworking tools. However, due to their density and hardness, we recommend using sharp and high-quality tools to achieve clean cuts and a perfect finish. Zebrawood planks are great for woodturning, carving, and other fine woodworking projects.

Warnings and Safety Information:

Warning Notice: Safety and Health Risks When Working with Wood

Wood is a versatile and sustainable material, available in both domestic and exotic varieties, with many possible applications. However, there are specific risks associated with storage, processing, and use that must be considered. This warning notice applies to all types of wood, both domestic and exotic.

General Hazards of Wood Products:

1. Wood Dust and Respiratory Issues:

Sanding, sawing, or milling wood creates fine dust that can irritate the respiratory system or be harmful to health. Exotic woods often contain substances that can be toxic or allergenic.

Examples:

Domestic: Beech and oak can produce fine dust that may cause irritation or asthma.

Exotic: Zebrawood, teak, or wenge can release toxic dust.

Always wear protective masks (FFP2 or FFP3) and work in a well-ventilated area.

2. Skin Irritation and Allergic Reactions:

Wood can contain natural resins, tannins, or other substances that may cause irritation or allergic reactions upon skin contact.

Examples:

Domestic: Oak and ash can cause skin irritation due to their tannic acids.

Exotic: Cocobolo and iroko are known to cause allergic reactions.

Wear protective gloves when working with wood and avoid direct skin contact.

3. Risk of Splinters:

Wood, whether domestic or exotic, can form sharp splinters that may cause injuries. Splinters from hardwoods can be especially difficult to remove.

Wear cut-resistant gloves and check the wood for rough areas before processing.

4. Fire Hazard:

Wood dust is highly flammable and can ignite explosively when in contact with ignition sources or static discharge.

Keep wood dust away from open flames and clean work surfaces regularly.

5. Pests and Mold:

Improperly stored wood can be infested by pests or damaged by mold, which may pose health risks.

Store wood in a dry, well-ventilated place, protected from moisture.

6. Toxic Substances (Especially in Exotic Woods):

Exotic woods like teak, rosewood, or zebrawood often contain substances that can be toxic when touched or inhaled. Some of these substances may cause symptoms such as nausea, headaches, or skin rashes.

Safety Measures for All Types of Wood:

Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including a dust mask, safety goggles, and protective gloves.

Ensure a dust-free and well-ventilated working environment.

Carefully remove splinters and use sharp tools to ensure clean cuts.

Test surface treatments (e.g. oils, varnishes) first on an inconspicuous spot to avoid unwanted reactions.

Storage and Disposal:

Store wood in a dry and well-ventilated location to prevent moisture and mold growth.

Dispose of wood waste and dust in accordance with local regulations. Do not burn wood waste indiscriminately, as this can release harmful substances.

This warning notice applies to all wood types and is intended to inform consumers about potential hazards and ensure safe handling, processing, and use. Always consider the specific properties of the wood you are working with.
