Color & grain

• Heartwood: Light brown to reddish-brown, often uniform in color, with a matt surface.
• Sapwood: Very light, almost white to yellowish, and clearly distinguishable from the heartwood.
• Grain: Usually straight and even, but sometimes with gentle waves or a fine texture. The grain is usually unobtrusive, but the wood can achieve a high polish that makes it particularly attractive.

• Average height: 25-40 meters
• Trunk diameter: 50-80 cm
• Hardness: Janka hardness: ~5,740 N somewhat harder than many other woods such as oak and maple, but still easy to work with.
• Weight: Average density, approx. 700-800 kg/m³ in the dried state.
• Durability: Relatively low resistance to moisture, which is why beech wood is mainly used indoors. When used outdoors, it must be well treated and protected as it is susceptible to moisture and fungal attack.

Frequent uses

• Furniture: Particularly popular for making tables, chairs, shelves and beds due to its uniform color and stability. Beech is often used for modern furniture and in Scandinavian design.
• Flooring & parquet: Is often used for parquet floors, stairs and wood paneling, as it has a high abrasion resistance.
• Kitchen utensils & chopping boards: Beech is often used for chopping boards, wooden spoons and other kitchen items as it is a durable, hygienic material.
• Toys & children’s furniture: Due to its stability and harmlessness, beech wood is often used in the manufacture of toys and furniture for children.
• Construction & interior fittings: Used in interior fittings for stairs, window frames and doors. Beech is also a preferred material in furniture construction for light and medium applications.
