The smoked oak scantlings, measuring 50x50x600 mm and of flawless quality, are perfect for a wide variety of solid wood projects, such as small furniture, cutting boards, woodturning projects, knife handles, and much more. All of our Fine Woods are always sufficiently dried and hand-selected so you can get started on your project right away. This wood has been kiln-dried (KD) to a residual moisture content of 7–13%.

Special Characteristics of Solid Wood:

Wood is a natural product; every piece is unique. Variations in color—especially when the wood comes from different logs—are natural characteristics of the material. It is precisely these variations in grain and color that make each piece of wood—and therefore your project—special.

Wood expands and contracts: Its volume can fluctuate depending on humidity, which can lead to warping and, in the worst case, cracking and misalignment. Exposure to sunlight causes the wood’s color to change over time. By sanding the surface again and applying a fresh coat of oil, the wood will regain its original rich color even after many years. This way, your wood project can last for decades :).

Processing instructions:

Smoked oak scantlings can be easily worked with standard woodworking tools. Sharp tools are always recommended when working with solid wood to achieve clean cut edges. How long does delivery take?

The delivery time is usually 3-7 working days.

Are the shipping costs higher for a larger order?

No. You only pay the shipping fee once per order, even if your delivery is made in several packages due to the high weight of precious woods.

Tip: It is worthwhile to combine several woods or dimensions directly in one order.

Can I process the wood immediately?

For all woods, we specify the respective residual moisture . In most cases, you can start editing right away. However, for filigree work, such as instrument making, we recommend a short acclimatization.

Can I only buy wood with upright growth rings?

No. A shipment can include timber with both upright and horizontal growth rings. Since cutting a trunk produces significantly fewer woods with upright growth rings, their proportion is naturally lower.

Why are only certain precious woods available in the shop?

We only offer precious woods that are currently available in our shop. The reason for this is our high quality standards: not every type of wood is permanently available in consistent quality.

In order to be able to offer you a large selection of widths and dimensions , we regularly cut our precious woods and update the range accordingly.

When sanding, sawing or milling wood, fine dust is produced, which can irritate the respiratory tract or be harmful to health. Exotic woods often contain ingredients that can be toxic or allergenic.

Examples:

Native: Beech and oak can produce fine dust that can cause irritation or asthma.

Exotic: Zebrawood, teak or wenge can release toxic dust.

Always use respirators (FFP2 or FFP3) and work in a well-ventilated environment.

2. Skin irritation and allergic reactions:

Wood can contain natural resins, tannins or other substances that cause irritation or allergies when in contact with the skin.

Examples:

Local: Oak and ash can cause skin irritation due to their tannic acids.

Exotic: Cocobolo and Iroko are known for allergic reactions.

Wear protective gloves during processing and avoid direct skin contact.

3. Splinter tendency:

Wood, whether native or exotic, can form sharp splinters that cause injuries. Splinters from hardwoods can be particularly difficult to remove.

Wear cut-resistant gloves and check the wood for rough areas before processing.

4. Fire hazard:

Wood dust is highly flammable and can ignite explosively when it comes into contact with ignition sources or due to static charge.

Keep wood dust away from open flames and clean work surfaces regularly.

5. Pests and mold:

Improperly stored wood can be attacked by pests or damaged by mold, which can be harmful to health.

Store wood in a dry, well-ventilated place and protected from moisture.

6. Toxic substances (especially in exotic woods):

Exotic woods such as teak, rosewood or zebrawood often contain ingredients that can be toxic if they come into contact or are inhaled. Some of these substances can trigger symptoms such as nausea, headaches or rashes.
